Gomeroi Women’s Choir and Gomeroi Youth Choir
2 Rivers are seeking expressions of interest from Gomeroi women (18+) and First Nations youth between 12-17, living in Tamworth, with an interest to participate in a new vocal ensemble project, Gomeroi Women’s Choir (GWC) and Gomeroi Youth Choir (GYC).
Participants can expect to work with a vocalist/songwriter across a series of mentoring, workshops and rehearsals that will culminate into live performances.
About the Choir:
Each choir will explore language through song, reconnecting those with severed ties to identity, language and culture or strengthening those ties for those who are in touch with all aspects of culture.
Rehearsals will be a safe place for participants to learn and sing and simply be themselves. We promote togetherness, nurture femininity and spiritual growth, and provide a space for you to be creative and most of all - have FUN!
The repertoire will be comprised of original songs written in a combination of Gamilaraay and English, as well as a collective of cover songs, to be agreed upon by the choir themselves. The team will work on the vocal arrangements of these songs and give you the skills to perform to your full potential.
This is a pilot project, meaning EOI’s are open to Gomeroi women (18+) and First Nations Youth (12-17) living in Tamworth , with an interest in the choirs’ intentions and in group singing. Musical experience is not a requirement.
